OxBlue’s solar-powered stations and trailers connect you to your job site without having to call the power company. Solar technology allows you to set up cameras anywhere on the job site to get the best view of your project. The solar-powered trailers add an additional element of mobility and their telescoping masts provide great vantage points to track progress on the job site.
Here are a few quick tips to help you better understand how to use solar with your project.
Placement on the Job Site
When installing your solar system, follow three principles to ensure success.
- Place solar panels where it will receive direct sunlight for the entire day.
- Install the panel(s) facing south.
- Tilt the panel to a 45° angle.
If you forget the rest of this blog, remember those three details.
The Impact of Shade
Shade will result in a power failure, which is why direct sunlight placement is imperative for your camera. Here’s an illustration of how the shade can affect the effectiveness of your solar panel.
How to Mount Your Station
When mounting your solar station system, remember that the battery cabinet needs to be accessible from the ground, so around 4 to 5 feet high. Next, secure the panel above the battery box at a height that avoids shade and receives direct sunlight throughout the day. Finally, mount the camera to the top of the pole or as high as needed for your desired job site angle.
The installation for a solar station should take roughly 45 to 60 minutes and once complete, will provide reliable power throughout the duration of your project.
Solar Power Station or Solar Power Trailer – which fits your project?
There are two solar power options for your job site. The solar power station mounts to a pole and consists of a cabinet and panel. The station gives you freedom from relying on electricity to power the camera on site. In addition to all the benefits of the solar station, the solar trailer provides complete mobility as well as a telescoping mast, which is excellent for transportation projects.
Depending on your needs and the size of the project, you can choose which system best works for you.
Receive Credit for using Renewable Energy
Since solar is a renewable resource, the U.S. government is offering incentives to construction and real estate professionals who choose the option. By purchasing and installing solar power equipment to generate power, you’re eligible to receive a federal renewable energy tax credit for up to 30% of the investment made and may also be eligible for additional state tax credits.
With these tips and tricks to using our solar station or trailer, you can achieve all your project goals and make informed decisions on how to use solar power on your job site.
