Highway/Bridge:

Improving team coordination on a complex private/public toll road: South Bay Expressway, Private/Public Toll Road San Diego County, CA

The $635 million South Bay Expressway is a finance / build / operate toll road designed to move large volumes of truck and auto traffic from the border of Mexico through San Diego County. The centerpiece of the 10 mile expressway is three-quarter mile precast segmental bridge across the Otay River.

The lead partner, California Transportation Ventures, Inc., is using OxBlue’s images for presentations and marketing materials to promote the expressway to large volume transportation companies and to raise public awareness. In addition, members of Construction Manager Parsons Corporation’s dispersed team used the system for checking project status on a hourly and daily basis.

"It has proven to be a very efficient way to communicate project status to the overall project team as well as to the public. We did research on webcam systems and selected OxBlue because it was the easiest to understand and implement. We’re really pleased with the product."

Because of the unique and complex nature of funding – mainly private overseas investors but also state, local and federal highway funds – a large number of stakeholders are also interested in daily progress. The OxBlue system proved to be an ideal solution.

"We have lenders from all over the world. OxBlue gives them a comfort level - they can watch progress from anywhere and whenever they want to."
