OxBlue Foundation Observes Martin Luther King Jr. Day with Community Service
Jan. 21, 2020 (ATLANTA, Ga.) – The OxBlue Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all-volunteer charity focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)-related educational initiatives, observed Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Day with community service.
They spent the day painting murals in Kelley Lake Elementary, a Title 1 school located in the metro Atlanta area. A Title 1 school is an elementary or secondary school receiving government assistance due to its high percentage of low-income students. The goal was to create a bright and nurturing environment, especially since, according to a report published in the Review of Educational Research, a positive school environment can improve academic achievements in students of a lower socioeconomic status.
The murals were designed and outlined by Jillian Dunbar, an Atlanta-based artist and illustrator.
“The children at Kelley Lake deserve to learn and grow in an inspiring environment,” said Dunbar. “I feel so lucky to be involved in this project, and I’m grateful to the OxBlue Foundation for reaching out to me.”
